College Hockey Rolls Out 2012-2013 Season

Another lovely College Hockey Season is upon us. Most teams were in action this weekend with very few conference games taking place. My nationally ranked 6th place Umass Lowell Riverhawks hosted their season opener to the University of Vermont Catamounts. After 65 minutes of puck battling, both teams played to a 1-1 tie. A little disappointing for UML coming out of the gate and pouring it on offensively in the second with a 1-0 lead but UVM’s goalie Brody Hoffman did not blink once and the Catamounts rallied late in the 3rd to force a hard earned tie for themselves.

Other scores around the league are as follows:

Northeastern upset BC 3-1 in the season opener and I would expect a lot more similar type of play from this Northeastern squad for the rest of the season. Penn State won their school’s first D1 Hockey program game beating American International 4-3 in OT on Saturday after losing 3-2 in OT the previous day. After a week or so of games the newly updated national rankings are in as well:

Minnesota secures the #1 spot but as we all know these standings can change drastically over the course of a weekend. Stay tuned for the latest as we get deeper into the start of the college hockey season.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
