Deadline Deals: Ales Hemsky to Ottawa/Two Draft Picks to Edmonton

TSN’s Darren Dreger mentioned that he believed Ottawa and Pittsburgh were in the mix for Ales Hemsky, but in the end, the Senators got it done.

Ottawa finds a veteran forward to help a young Senators team that appears a bit lost without long-time captain Daniel Alfredsson this season.

The 30-year old Hemsky has been on the block for quite some time, having been continually pushed down the depth chart due to the influx of countless young forwards.

The Czech right winger will likely play alongside Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza on the Senators’ first line. He adds a lot of experience to the team, and his drive to succeed was only fueled by his prolonged stay in Edmonton.

In 652 career games, Hemsky has scored 142 goals and 477 points. This season he has 9 goals and 26 points in 55 games.

In return, the Edmonton Oilers receive a 5th-Round pick in this year’s draft and a 3rd-Round pick in next year’s draft. And we all know how much Edmonton loves their draft picks. Let’s get some more top-tier forwards on that team. What’s defense?
