Deadline Deals: Devan Dubnyk to Montreal/Future Considerations to Nashville

Goaltender Devan Dubnyk has been traded to the Montreal Canadiens, after he was waived by the Nashville Predators just two days ago.

The trade gives the Habs some insurance in net with Carey Price’s recent injury.

Keep in mind that Dubnyk’s stats may not be indicative of his true skill. He’s played all but two of his 173 games with the defensively-weak Edmonton Oilers.

He wasn’t given much of a chance in Nashville, only being able to play two games with the Preds. Pekka Rinne’s return eliminated the need for Dubnyk on the roster.

In his career, he is 61-77-22 with a 2.90 GAA and .909 SP.

He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this off-season, having made an average of $3.5 million over the past two seasons.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reports that Nashville will retain part of Dubnyk’s salary for this season.
