Meet Our Writers

  • ScottFinger

Scott is the managing editor for Hooked on Hockey Magazine, which is perfect since he spends an unnecessary amount of time nitpicking and making sure everything is perfect, and also loves hockey and writing. He graduated from Roger Williams University in 2011 with a useless degree in Media Communications (concentrating in Journalism). Being a New York Rangers fan (and NY Giants and Mets fan) living in Boston is very uncomfortable for him, and it'll be awkward trying to celebrate a Rangers Cup win in the streets when they inevitably win sometime in the next 100 years. He also likes long walks on the beach.
  • Igor Burdetskiy

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Start it off with a comment below!
  • Kevin Sporka

Kevin Sporka is the Senior Media Analyst at HOHM, and also the Detroit Red Wings writer. He is also the author of the Weekly Wraparound, Fantasy Hockey Fridays, and Milestone Monday (to debut next season) segments.
  • Prashanth Iyer

Prashanth is a third year doctor of pharmacy student at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, NC. Prashanth is studying to be an infectious disease pharmacist, but in his spare time, he watches any hockey game he can catch. He was born and raised just outside Detroit, Michigan and hence is a big Red Wings fan. He is always willing to hear any and all debates pertaining to his articles, so feel free to email him at piyer@hohmag.com or contact him via social media
  • Taylor Gaines

Tampa Bay Lightning fan pursuing a career as a journalist at the University of Florida.
  • Kevin Cawthra

Just a Canadian kid living the life. Currently the Canucks writer for hookedonhockeymagazine.com and a Sports writer for vancitybuzz.com. Follow me on twitter @KevinCawthra to talk hockey or any sports you like, or if you want to debate, give me your best shot!
  • Josh Beneteau

Hockey has always been a passion of mine and once I realized I would never make it as a player, I still wanted a career in the sport. With my writing, I get to be a part of the sport I love, safely in front of a laptop screen. I am currently studying journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto and I hope my degree and my many writing experiences lead to a successful career in the field.
  • Bob Duggan

Huge Sabres and hockey fan! Attends several games a year. Enjoys seeing Coaches Corner and Don Cherry. Glad there is an NHL season! Sabres winning the Cup in 2013! Follow me on twitter @dugganbob
  • Adam Bernard

I'm a seasoned veteran in the sports media field and a lifelong Rangers fan (hoping to relive 1994 at some point - I couldn't fully appreciate a championship at 11 years old). Hockey dominates my life for the most part: I also root for the Blackhawks & Kings, I've been lucky enough to split season tickets for the Blueshirts with a good friend since the lockout, and I'm a defenseman on a local roller hockey team. Away from the rink, I enjoy hiking, hard rock music, and spending time with my dog Astro.
  • Brady Trettenero

I am an enormous hockey fan with a monumental passion for the game. When I am not cheering on my Flyers, I am hitting the ice myself. I play between the pipes and my life revolves around the game. I write for the Philly Flyers for Hooked on Hockey Magazine and find complete enjoyment in doing so. Currently, I am studying Communications at university in hopes to have a career in journalism or broadcasting. The rare time I don't have stick and puck on my mind, one may find me watching a movie or catching a fish. One can never talk enough hockey with me and I would love to interact with you. I am on twitter @trett27 and I am always open to talk some puck! Be happy and enjoy the greatest game on earth.
  • Andrew Williams

I'm a 24 year old Raleigh, NC native who is extremely passionate about Carolina Hurricanes hockey (believe it or not, we exist!). I've been a fan of hockey for around 10 years now and love everything about the game. I play roller hockey in my spare time, and am pretty knowledgeable about the game. Check out my personal website for any extra info on the Canes or other NC sports at www.ncsportsbuzz.com.
  • DaveSchauer

David Schauer is an award-winning, professional writer who has been involved in organized hockey for over twenty years. He has been published hundreds of times; about the same number of times he has been checked into the boards.
  • Cory Whitmer

Cory is a 27-year old aspiring sportswriter and Convergent Journalism student at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Some could call him a cynic, he likes to think of himself as a sports realist. An avid Denver sports fan, he doesn't hold back, even on his home teams. Check out his Colorado Rockies blog: http://throughthefencebaseball.com/author/cory-whitmer/
  • David Rice

I am a self-proclaimed Sports Fanatic.I have been to NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, aqnd World Series in a 12 month period. I am an unemployed teacher who is looking for a full-time assignment. I substitute teach by day and tutor, coach, and am a freelance writer by night all to make ends meet. I also do P.A. announcing for a few high school. My favorite teams are the Ducks in hockey, Angels in baseball, Tampa Bay Bucs in football, and Los Angeles Lakers in basketball. In college sports I support my alma mater Florida State University and also UCLA. I earned my bachelor's degree in broadcasting and journalism at FSU. In 2009 I earned my multiple subject teaching credential and a master's degree in education from Concordia University in Irvine, Ca.
  • John Feldman

Avid Flyers fan, former hockey player, and current drinker. I'm 27 years old and I still act like I'm 12. I've chosen to watch regular season Flyers games over work, girlfriends, special family occasions, and proper hygiene. And when the playoffs start...well I'm sure you can imagine. It's no wonder I'm still single, unemployed, and living with my parents. But until something comes along and changes my opinion about the Flyers (nothing ever will), I'm totally cool with it. By the way, I wrote a book. It has absolutely nothing to do with hockey. http://www.amazon.com/How-Be-Unsuccessful-John-Feldman/dp/1469982269/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342974305&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+be+unsuccessful (I don't know how to hyperlink it. I'm not too smart.)
  • Sofia Rizzo

Proud fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and everything hockey. Hockey is my first love and never fails to inspire, motivate, and uplift me.
  • Lisa Dancel

I'm an LA girl living in the greater Orlando area. After moving from one sunny state to another, I've never lost my love of hockey. Saturdays are spent at the rink, where my twin boys take lessons. I spend my Sunday mornings singing or otherwise serving at church. By day, I'm a paralegal; by night, I'm a paralegal who goes home. If you see me around, we should share a pitcher of beer. Dark brews only, please.
  • Tyler DeZubay

Born in Charlotte, now living in Greenville, SC. Aspiring medical student. I've never been able to live in a hockey town but maybe one day.
  • Jacob M

I'm a huge Sharks fan who has been watching hockey/covering hockey for 6 years. Don't worry...I hate Gary Bettman as much as you do.
  • Kaitlin Sullivan

Massachusetts native, and avid hockey fanatic, I grew up in a "hockey family" and began spending countless hours in frigid hockey rinks beginning at age 2. I eat, sleep, breathe, and love every aspect of the game and I have always known that hockey was my passion. Unfortunately being a 5'5" female, however, would not grant me a place in the show. The next best thing would be writing and hopefully someday becoming a rink-side NHL reporter. My past reporting experience includes work with ESPNU Campus Connection, WHDH Channel 7 Boston, and Madison Square Garden Network. I am currently a sports broadcasting major at Boston College. Twitter: @kaitEsull
  • Michela Ricci

Just a desert native who lives and breathes ice hockey, oh the irony... Born and raised in Arizona, and been skating since she was a squirt. Michela worked on the Ice Crew for the Phoenix Coyotes and was then a Coyotes cheerleader for 3 years. After graduating Arizona State University she moved up to Boston to pursue work in sports. Huge Coyotes fan, loves the Bruins, and has always had a liking for the Pens. Realizing that her dream in life will never be fulfilled (because she's not a 6'4 Canadian male who is capable of playing in NHL), so she's searching for the next best thing.
  • Kayla Winsett

I'm a twenty-year-old Communications Major. Devout Nashville Predators fan. From Nashville, but currently living in Dyersburg, TN. (Ten minutes from the Missouri boot-heel.) My life basically revolves around hockey. When I'm not watching hockey, I'm listening to Carter Hulsey & A Day To Remember.
  • MikeKluxdal

Hi, my name is Michel Kluxdal. I am a die-hard Minnesota Wild fan, who is extremely excited to be blogging about the team, for Hooked on Hockey Magazine. I also run my own blog called Michel on Sports. For Hooked on Hockey Magazine, I hope to provide the reader with a detailed look at the Minnesota Wild and their AHL team, the Houston Aeros. It is my intention to provide fair and bias-free coverage to the readers of this magazine.
  • Olga Khmylev

"Hockey is a man's sport." Thank you Mom & Dad! ☺ Ever since my dream of becoming the 1st female NHLer was crushed, I decided to pursue a career that would keep me involved with the most entertaining sport in the world. The Sabres are in my blood. My first game I ever attended was at age 2 and I think I spent 59 minutes of the game sleeping in the wives room... ha! Things have slightly changed since then and now my eyes are permanently glued to the ice whenever a game is on. I've been lucky enough to work as a PR intern for the Buffalo Sabres during the 2011 World Jrs and as a Results Manager for the International Ice Hockey Federation at the 2012 & 2013 World Jrs. The next chapter of my life involves entertaining you… Enjoy! :) Twitter: @OlgaKhmylev
  • Adrianna Szenthe

Adrianna is a senior English literature major at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Having grown up in Edmonton, she'll continue rooting on the Edmonton Oilers regardless of what city she's in. Since she's not able to make a killer slapshot, writing about them seems the next best thing.
  • Sam Thomas

I am a freelance writer, poet and prospective novelist. I have lived in Edmonton my whole life and have been an Oilers fan since I was born in 1979. I attended my first Oilers practice in the spring of 1981.
  • Steve Auld

My name is Steve and I am from the very noble Auld clan of Niagara, where we respect our elders and follow the golden rules: elbows up, and keep your stick on the ice. When not tearing up beer league or ball hockey, I go to Niagara College where I study journalism, and enjoy the occasional downtime I have with my wife and our baby boy. Love me some Foo Fighters too. Read, comment, like, and if you feel I did a good job or you want to argue, add me @stevewauld on twitter.
  • Alvin Cho

Born and raised in BC, Canada. Avid hockey fan (sports in general). I love talking about and debating sports. Also a wrestler, drummer, guitar player, and snowboarder. Give me a follow on twitter! @AlvinTheChoster
  • ChrisEvan

I've been a Sharks fan my entire life, In fact one of my earliest childhood memories is watching the Sharks play at the Cow Palace during their first season in 1991. I was blessed enough to grow up with season tickets at HP Pavilion, and my team has become my second family. At 22 I decided to apply my passion for the sport towards a career as a hockey journalist, and I'm lucky enough to have become part of this passionate group of writers that is Hooked On Hockey Magazine. You can find me at the Shark Tank in section 113, look for the kid screaming with a ridiculous mustache; or at San Jose Ice breaking my leg in a beer league pre-season game like a boss. GO SHARKS!
  • Evan Davits

I grew up playing hockey on the roads, outdoor rinks, and ice surfaces of various arenas in Edmonton and around Northern Alberta. Now, I am a father of three and a journalism student at MacEwan University in Edmonton. My words are often brutally honest and critical; however, I have never been the type to shy away from sarcasm and humour.
  • Dawson Drolet

I have been an insanely intense fan of the Calgary Flames for as long as I can remember. Hockey is a huge part of my life and always has been. Every morning I wake up and watch one of three television shows. Those three shows consist of "That's Hockey", "Sportscenter" and "Sportsnet Connected." All day I am constantly glued my phone checking twitter updates for any breaking news or reading article after article on various sports apps. I will rarely go a day with out getting my hockey fix. I am not only one of the most passionate and opinionated Calgary Flames fans you will ever meet, but an extremely engaged hockey fan also.
  • Rachel Askin

I once was selected for Score-O at Continental Airlines Arena and missed by a half inch.
  • John Orti

John Orti is a Producer/Creative Director in Los Angeles. * Downtown L.A. resident. (Near Staples Center) * Favorite All-Time Los Angeles King : Marcel Dionne * Hockey Player : Any Position except center and goalie! Things you should know: L.A. is a hockey town!

  • Alyssa Burns

My name is Alyssa Burns and I am an eighteen year-old, Southern California Native. I currently work for the city of Corona's Parks and Community Services department. I was born and raised in the Inland Empire; that means--yep, you guessed it!--I am an Anaheim Ducks fan. Hockey is not simply a sport for me, it is a part of my family's dynamic and a part of myself.
  • John-Mark Mallory

I'm a passionate Chicago sports fan currently living on the north side of Chicago. I was a long suffering Blackhawks fan until 2010 when the team finally hoisted the Stanley Cup after a 49 year drought. Blackhawks fans should look for me on the cover of the book "One Goal Achieved" that chronicled the 2009-2010 season; I was one of the thousands of fans chasing after the double-decker bus carrying Patrick Kane and the Cup, I just managed to get close enough to be in the photo. I've covered the Bulls and Blackhawks before and am excited to cover the team and other NHL news more for Hooked on Hockey Magazine.
  • Joshua Pickens

Joshua is a college student majoring in communications and journalism with a devout passion for hockey, especially the Nashville Predators. When he is not contributing for Hooked on Hockey Magazine he is busy maintaining a 4.0 GPA & playing NHL 13.
  • Michelle Kelly

I am starting my 8th year working as a hockey scorekeeper, the last 5 years I've added scorekeeper coordinator to my resume. I grew up watching hockey with my grandfather and we would often quiz each other on players' stats. I'm also a mom to a 2 year old daughter, she's already showing a love of the game and can already win a face-off!
  • Colin Schmaeling

Let's Go Islanders! Lifelong Isles fan who's endured the tough times and looks forward to the better ones. I've worked at SiriusXM Satellite Radio since 2005. I currently am a producer in Sports Programming and work on "Mad Dog Unleashed" with Christopher Russo. I've also been a registered USA Hockey official since 1999-2000. • JonathanWoof

I played competitive hockey from the age I was 5 until my final year of my undergraduate degree and have always been a fan of the sport. I have fond memories of being on the ice three times a day in high school and being glued to the television in the playoffs. Unfortunately, my days of playing hockey competitively are over, however my days as a fan and analyst are just beginning. I currently reside in the Ottawa area and I am attending grad school at the University of Ottawa. Because of my proximity to the team, I will be covering the Ottawa Senators and their quest to make it back to the Stanley Cup finals.
  • Luis Vazquez

I am a ten year veteran of the writing wars. I have contributed to New York City sporting news, Ultimate Athlete Magazine, and Latinosports.com. I am an avid New york Islander fan from the days when I watched a split screen for home games(Sportschannel was a seperate pay channel then) and channel nine for road games. Mike Trottier was my favorite player.
