Team Canada Roster set for 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship

Toronto Maple Leafs‘ goaltender James Reimer, Sens‘ Kyle Turris and the Jets‘ Mark Scheifele were among the first twenty players confirmed for the upcoming world hockey championships in Belarus Thursday.

General manager Rob Blake made the announcement along with Hockey Canada.

“We are excited about the first group of players that have committed to representing Canada at the world championship,” said Blake. “We have a good mix of experience and youth at both the professional and international level.”

So far, three-quarters of the twenty players named have international experience including five that have already represented Canada at the world championships*.

Teams may continue to add players as their clubs are eliminated from the playoffs, but may only have 25 on their official playing roster, including three goaltenders.

The tournament begins on May 9 in Minsk, Belarus
