Canada Rallies By Slovakia In 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship

After Slovakia opened the scoring, team Canada scored four unanswered goals to win and improve to 1-0-1-0 on the tournament.

The upset loss to France  Friday called for a turnaround and the Canadians did just that, highlighted by a two-goal performance from Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward. Ward tied the game late in the second period and the team never looked back. Cody Hodgson gave Canada the lead 7:07 into the third period while Marc Methot and Ward made it 3-1 and 4-1 late in the game, respectively.

Head coach Dave Tippet decided to give Ben Scrivens the start and he played a solid 60 minutes, making 23 saves on 24 shots.

Tippet said he preferred that his team grow after a loss early in the tournament following Friday’s tournament opener. With five preliminary games remaining, a bounce-back victory is the way to do just that.

With the win, the team avoided opening the tournament with back-to-back losses for the first time since 1977, the year Canada began sending it’s players to world hockey championships.

Team Canada will have an off-day Sunday before facing off against the Czech Republic Monday at 1:45 p.m. EDT
