  • The Norfolk Admirals finished off the Toronto Marlies in a 4-game sweep in the Calder Cup Championship, winning Game Four 6-1. The AHL regular season champions went 15-3 in the 2012 playoffs, claiming the organization’s first AHL championship.
  • Alexandre Picard was awarded the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs as voted by the coaches. Picard scored nine goals and added seven assists while leading the Admirals to the Championship.
  • Steve Yzerman and the Bolts bolstered their organizational depth at the goaltender position, signing Finland native Riku Helenius to a two-year deal. He led JYP to the Finnish elite league championship with a 1.64 GAA and a .936 SV% last season.
  • Tampa Bay now has three non-roster goalies under contract for next year, including Helenius, Dustin Tokarski, and Pat Nagle. Jaroslav Janus will become a restricted free agent on July 1 and the Bolts can retain him if they so choose. Tokarski and Janus helped lead Norfolk to the Calder Cup Championship.
  • Dwayne Roloson is now an unrestricted free agent and not expected to be resigned due to his age (42).
  • The Lightning’s affiliation with the Norfolk Admirals no longer exists, as their agreement expired this year, ending a five-year relationship.
  • The Lightning announced June 14 that they have entered into a multi-year agreement with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. According to Lightning assistant general manager Julien BriseBois, the move had less to with the Norfolk organization and more to do with cutting costs and reducing travel in order to provide the players with better chances for development. All players and staff now under contract with Tampa Bay will transfer over to the new affiliate in Syracuse beginning next season.
