Boston Bruins sign David Pastrnak to eight-year, $90 million contract extension

The Boston Bruins have signed star winger David Pastrnak to a massive eight-year, $90 million contract extension that carries an annual cap hit of $11.25 million, according to an announcement from the team.

The contract is the most lucrative in franchise history. Pastrnak’s contract extension will begin in the 2023-24 season and will last until the 2030-31 season.

Pastrnak, who turns 27 in May, is currently the Bruins’ all-time leader in points (80), goals (42), assists (38), and power-play goals (14) for the 2022-23 season. This is Pastrnak’s third 40-goal season in his career, and he is on pace to set a new career high with 57 goals. Since Cam Neely’s 50-goal season in 1993-94, the Bruins haven’t had a 50-goal scorer in a season.

Pastrnak has spent his entire professional career with the Bruins, having been selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. In 570 career games, Pastrnak has 282 goals and 302 assists for the Bruins, a franchise high.

Pastrnak had his best season in 2019-20, when he set a career high with 48 goals and won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer.

Pastrnak ranks in the top 20 in several offensive categories in franchise history.
In Bruins history, he is third in hat tricks (13), ninth in goals (282), 14th in points (584), and 18th in assists (302).

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
