Dallas Stars Loan Valeri Nichushkin to AHL Affiliates

It appears that Dallas’ favorite Russian teenager will be spending some time in Cedar Park, Texas with the Texas Stars before making a return to full action.

19 year-old forward Valeri Nichushkin has been plagued with a hip and groin injury since before training camp in September and is still not at 100%. His playing time during the preseason was limited, but after two regular season games it was apparent that Nichushkin was still being bothered by the injury and not quite ready to play. He was placed on Injured Reserve until yesterday when he was loaned to the Texas Stars on a conditioning assignment.

When NHL teams loan their players to their AHL affiliate they are able to send the player without having to deal with waivers or cap penalties. Nichushkin will be able to get back into shape and train with the Texas Stars and Dallas has 14 days to recall him back to the NHL due to the loan.

The official press release:

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has activated forward Valeri Nichushkin from injured reserve and assigned him to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), on a conditioning assignment.

Nichushkin,19, has missed the last seven games with a lower-body injury, last playing on Oct. 11 at Nashville. He has skated in two games this season, posting zero points and one shot. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound forward earned 34 points (14-20=34) for the Stars, which was good for fourth most all-time among Dallas Stars rookies.

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia was selected by Dallas in the first round (10th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
