Are the Edmonton Oilers going to sign Corey Perry?

As a result of Perry’s contract being terminated in Chicago due to his poor behavior within the organization, we can certainly presume that Ken Holland, the current general manager of the Oilers, is keeping an eye on the forward, as would be the case with other clubs in need of role-player assistance, such as Florida and Colorado.

Holland took a chance and signed forward Evander Kane—a player with a lot of off-ice baggage—that struck gold.

If Holland doesn’t think Perry’s drug abuse is a major obstacle, he will be all-in on the potential Hall of Famer, even though he turns 39 in May. Holland will have to wait for Perry’s substance abuse situation to clear up and he will undoubtedly have to thoroughly investigate what Perry did to have his contract terminated in Chicago. For Holland, who acquired a 38-year-old Duncan Keith through trade, age is not a concern.

The Oilers are in desperate need of a punishing forward and a second-unit power play maker, particularly come playoff time. Perry and Steve Yzerman are tied for 24th place all-time with 196 playoff games.

“He’s a guy you hate to play against but you love to have on your team. That’s how we hope it’ll play out,” said Hawks’ GM Kyle Davidson, when he traded a seventh-round draft pick for Perry’s UFA rights in June. It only played out for 16 games.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
