Breaking News: Friedman’s Bombshell Statement on Auston Matthews’ Future in Toronto

Many Leafs supporters are apprehensive about the team’s future given the uncertainty surrounding the team’s best players in the days following Kyle Dubas’ departure. Elliotte Friedman has shed some light on the matter, and things don’t seem promising.

Friedman recently spoke on the 32 Thoughts podcast on the reaction to Kyle Dubas’ firing and Brendan Shanahan’s press conference. Friedman claims that the Leafs’ locker room is really uncertain about Matthews’ future now that Dubas has been sacked.

Matthews’ current deal, which expires next summer, was signed by Dubas. It must have pleased the young superstar that he allowed Matthews to have his contract walk him right into unrestricted free agency. Would Matthews think about leaving if Dubas were to leave?

In addition to his report on Matthews, Friedman touched on the subject of general managers who fit Shanahan’s description of an ideal GM, and potential candidates. It turns out, not too many people are keen on taking over the Maple Leafs.

It looks like Shanahan shot himself in the foot with his post-firing presser, as now GMs are looking down upon him for it. It might be a long process before Toronto finds its next general manager.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
