Habs Re-Sign Tokarski

The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that they had come to terms with goaltender Dustin Tokarski on a new one year deal. The team announced the deal on Twitter.

Renaud Lavoie of RDS reported the deal was worth $575,000 at the NHL level.

The 23-year-old native of Humboldt, Sask. was acquired by Montreal in February from Tampa Bay. The Lightning took him in the 5th round at 122nd overall in 2008. He has a 1-3-1 NHL record in seven games, all with Tampa Bay.

However, his junior and AHL careers have been much more impressive. He helped the Spokane Chiefs capture the 2008 Memorial Cup. He also backstopped Canada to a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championships and he won the 2012 Calder Cup with then Tampa affiliate Norfolk Admirals.

As far as ice time in Montreal goes, Tokarski will be the first to be called up if Carey Price or Peter Budaj get injured. Otherwise, he will be the go to guy in net for the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.

Hockey has always been a passion of mine and once I realized I would never make it as a player, I still wanted a career in the sport. With my writing, I get to be a part of the sport I love, safely in front of a laptop screen. I am currently studying journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto and I hope my degree and my many writing experiences lead to a successful career in the field.
