Umass Lowell Riverhawks: A Force Not To Be Reckoned With!

With the Holidays at our doorsteps and the year winding down to its last few days, The Riverhawks have plenty to celebrate. Currently 4th in Hockey East (7-4-0) and ranked 17th in the Nation (10-5-0), UML is not a team to take lightly this year. The team last year suffered a rebuilding year going only 5-25-4 on the season that ended with the stepping down of their former coach Blaise MacDonald. However with double the amount of wins this year and convincing wins over BU, BC, a Home and Home Sweep of UNH, and a Weekend Sweep of Maine, UML is back to their winning ways.

UML’s success so far this season has come greatly in part from their rising star goalie, Doug Carr. Carr is 9-2-0 on the season with a 1.82 gaa and a .934 save percentage. Those numbers are good enough to put him among the top 6 goalies in the nation and 1st in Hockey East. The Riverhawks also have the nation’s 9th best offense (3.40 goals/game), 17th best defense in the nation (2.53 goals/game), and their powerplay is 11th in the nation at 22.22%. Look for this team to make a run at their first Hockey East Championship when they return back to collegiate action after the holidays.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
