Deadline Deals: Nick Schultz to Columbus/Draft Pick to Edmonton

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired veteran defenseman Nick Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 5th-Round pick.

Schultz is a solid defensive defenseman who has played 871 games since the 2001-02 season. He doesn’t score much, but he is still a very effective player on the back-end.

In Edmonton, he shared a defense pairing with 23-year old, fellow-last-name-holder-albeit-unrelated Justin Schultz.

The trade comes after the Blue Jackets traded Marian Gaborik away and received Matt Frattin in return earlier in the day.
