Fantasy Hockey Friday #8 (12/5/14)

FHF Key

Flash Sale = Players that are on strong hot streaks that you will need to add immediately before they are claimed by another team.

Bargain Bin = Similar to the Flash Sale category, except these players will not be as highly demanded. They will be claimed relatively quickly, but are not completely known to all teams.

Line Scorers = Players that are currently very low in ownership percentage and includes less-skilled players who are currently playing on productive lines, and have proved/might prove worthy of adding. As every studious fantasy owner knows, line combinations are everything.

FHF

Flash Sale

Jiri Hudler – LW/RW, 61% owned

Hudler is having a fantastic offensive year so far. In his last six games he has scored ten points, including five goals and three power play points. He has begun to shoot the puck a lot more frequently and his plus-minus has improved to plus-nine. He currently has 25 points.

Kris Versteeg – LW/RW, 50% owned (LW: 27%, previous week: 11%)

There aren’t many players in the league as hot as Kris Versteeg is right now. All of a sudden he has sixteen points in his last eleven games and seven in his last three. The second line in Chicago has really began to click with Brad Richards and Patrick Kane. He’s a plus-thirteen as the Blackhawks have found their offense again.

Derek Stepan – C, 58% owned

Stepan currently has a scoring streak of seven games. Since November 17th he has scored nine points in that span. More impressively, six of those nine points have come on the power play.

John Kingberg – D, 29% owned (LW: 23%)

The rookie defenseman’s hot streak is over, but there is still a lot of upside in his game. He still has nine points in his last nine games. He’s also a plus-eight.

Michael Hutchinson – G, 26% owned (LW: 21%, previous week: 9%)

While he is not the clear-cut starter in Winnipeg with the strong play of Ondrej Pavelec lately, Hutchinson is still worth owning. In five games since November 13th, he has not allowed more than two goals, and his season GAA and SP are 1.56 and .947. Pretty outstanding numbers.

Sean Monahan – C, 37% owned

Monahan has begun another scoring streak that currently stands at five games. In that span he has recorded six points (two power play points), while increasing his season shot total to 71. He’s a plus-seven and has ten goals and nine assists for the year.

Bargain Bin

Tommy Wingels – RW, 34% owned

Right now, Wingels is one of the most valuable players in fantasy hockey. He is not typically a point producer, but has found himself scoring a lot recently. He has eight points in his last five games, including three power play points. In addition to his most valuable stat, hits, of which he has 104, he now has 76 shots and 19 penalty minutes. In total he has nine goals, nine assists and seven power play points.

Stephen Weiss – C, 9% owned (LW: 3%)

Since returning from injury on November 24th, Weiss has scored nine points in six games. He was a plus-two in three of those games. He hasn’t seen significant ice time yet, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting up points.

Alex Killorn – C/LW, 16% owned

In his last ten games, Killorn has scored nine points, including five goals. He is currently playing on the top line in Tampa Bay with Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan.

Nazem Kadri – C, 48% owned

Kadri is finding his scoring touch again and currently has six points in his last four games, including a power play point. What’s the significance of the one power play point you may ask? Well it’s his first power play point of the season. He has struggled mightily to contribute on the man-advantage, so maybe things are starting to look up for the young forward. He now has seven goals and fifteen points.

Matt Beleskey – LW, 29% owned (LW: 19%)

Not usually a goal-scorer, Beleskey already has a career-high twelve goals, of which five have come in his last eight games. He’s on the top line in Anaheim with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, so he sees a lot of ice time. Like Wingels, Beleskey is a multi-faceted fantasy player. He has 71 shots and 60 hits to complement his 14 points and plus-seven rating.
