Cody Eakin Inks New Deal With The Dallas Stars

After spending the offseason and training camp as an unrestricted free agent and his future with the Stars up in the air, it appears as if “Agent Orange” will be in Dallas for another two years at least. As of today, September 29, the Dallas Stars have finalized a two year deal worth $3.8 million with fan favorite and rising star Cody Eakin.

At $1.9 million a year, this deal isn’t too bad on the salary cap and will leave some room for defenseman and unrestricted free agent Brenden Dillon to be signed. As of right now, there is no news on the status of Brenden Dillon’s contract, but the Stars will now able to put their full focus on signing him. Neither Dillon or Eakin have participated in the Stars training camp, but Eakin will likely be rejoining the boys soon.

Cody Eakin played well for the Stars last season, playing in all 81 regular season games, as well as six playoff games. During the regular season Eakin put up 16 goals and 19 assists for a total of 35 points, proving himself to be a great two-way forward. As for the playoffs, Eakin managed to score 2 goals and 3 assists. Cody Eakin spent most of the season serving as the Stars’ second line center, usually between Antoine Roussel and Ryan Garbutt. Now that Jason Spezza has signed with the Stars and will likely be on the second line, Eakin will most likely spend his time on the third. With guys like Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, and Cody Eakin down the center, the Stars are moving into the 2014-15 season with plenty of offensive depth and a team that will likely be one of the deadliest offenses in the league.
