Brad Marchand’s Controversial Comments on 2025 All-Star Game: Is He Right to Criticize the NHL?

Brad Marchand, the Boston Bruins’ superstar forward, will be remembered as one of the most colorful characters in the NHL over the last 20 years. He has never been afraid to express himself. Marchand goes against all of that thinking in an age when professional athletes are used to being so cookie cutter in the mainstream.

Marchand addressed his comment about the 2025 All-Star Game potentially being held in Edmonton, Detroit, or Seattle in a recent interview with ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski.

Marchand clarified that his remarks were meant as a joke and should not be taken seriously, but he sees a “little bit of truth” in his belief that players would not want to visit these cities during their break due to the harsh winter weather.

He apologized to Edmonton but didn’t show the same love for the city of Detroit saying its “suspect”.

The 34-year-old is having another strong season as he continues to build on his Hall of Fame career.
He has 19 goals and 54 points in 54 games.

Marchand will get up close and personal with the Detroit fans when the Bruins visit Detroit on the tail end of a home-and-home series with the Red Wings on Sunday. He’ll undoubtedly hear boos from the crowd, but I’m sure that will just roll off the back of the NHL’s most colorful irritant.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
