Jets’ Future in Winnipeg in Jeopardy Following Management’s Troubling Announcement

The Winnipeg Jets are far from the most profitable team in the league, but a recent statement makes things appear much worse than expected.

The Winnipeg Jets are dealing with a slew of issues. They’re on many no-trade lists, and the city is difficult to sell to free agents.

They play in the smallest NHL city as well as the second smallest arena behind the Coyotes.

The team issued the following statement:

Winnipeg. The Jets. One Community. One Family.

Since our earliest days, our vision has never wavered – to be a consistent source of pride for our community. Equally important is our responsibility as the steward of professional hockey in Winnipeg.

We endeavour every day to create long-lasting memories for our fans, and connect our generations past, present and future.

Our commitment to keeping the Jets in Winnipeg, forever, has never been stronger. But it takes all of us. Together.

Join us.

This was posted with a link to ForeverWinnipeg.ca, which says a lot about the situation.

With the Nashville Predators selling for $880 million this week and the Ottawa Senators approaching $1 billion, it’s possible that ownership will be forced to sell if things don’t work out in Winnipeg.

If they do leave, hopefully they will return again in 20 years…

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
