Toronto Maple Leafs sign goalie Christopher Gibson

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that they have signed Finnish net-minder Christopher Gibson to a three-year entry level contract.

Gibson was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings 49th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

He played for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL where he posted some unimpressive numbers in his last two years with the team.

The Maple Leafs are currently short on goaltending prospects, having lost several prospects through trades and free agency.

Gibson will likely play a backup role next year with the Marlies, or he could end up in the ECHL.

He’s now the second former Kings goalie to be acquired by the Maple Leafs this offseason.

It is still much too early in his career to make any grand pronouncements about his skill level, as it can take some time to learn the fine points of being a goalie in North America.

On his twitter account, Gibson said “Really proud to be part of a great organization #DreamComeTrue #leafs.”
