How do you Celly? Mrazek Cellys HARD! (USA Eliminated from World Juniors Tournament)

Team USA falls late once again under the pressure in what was a must win game versus the Czech Republic. USA entered the night needing at the least to pick up 1pt to keep their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals round of The World Juniors Championship Tournament. However Czech goalkeeper, Petr Mrazek, turned aside 52 of 54 shots in a magnificent performance to help the Czechs pull off a stunning upset Friday afternoon.

Team USA doesn’t really have anyone to blame but themselves for yet again another 3rd period breakdown and disappointing World Juniors performance. The team had a significant amount of power play time and went 2 for 7 in all. However, the Czechs stayed consistent with their play while also capitalizing on a few lucky bounces to keep pace with Team USA through the first 40 minutes of play. Eventually the Czech Team found the perfect time to strike to capture the lead and secure the victory late in the 3rd period. Mrazek came out on top on a crucial penalty shot opportunity awarded to Josh Archibald of Team USA in the 3rd period. Here’s the play itself and joyous Mrazek pumping up the crowd after the stop:

And just when you think he’d wait it out for the final buzzer, Mrazek keeps putting on a show and Celebrating as the Czechs make it 5-2 on an empty net goal:

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
