Evander Kane’s Remarkable Act of Kindness Goes Viral

Evander Kane of the Oilers may have finished his season, but the experienced forward is still active in Edmonton, volunteering. On Tuesday evening, Kane published images of a gathering he attended to help his great friend Cecily Eklund, who is fighting brain cancer, put up “a fun day for her dear friend Cosmo.” The youngster appears to also be facing illness, and Eklund is part of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, supporting other young patients with cancer. Kane has been trying his best to support his friend Cecily on her trip, and the images he uploaded on social media were widely shared.

You might recall Cecily from the fourth game of the first-round series against the Kings in Los Angeles, where the poor girl endured spitting and swearing. Kane criticized those in attendance who participated in the unpleasant conduct on social media. Many Kings’ supporters were furious that the unfortunate youngster had to go through this experience and made the decision to assist Cecily in her battle with cancer by sharing Cecily’s Stollery contribution page online and inspiring others to contribute.

It’s wonderful to see that Kane is still assisting Cecily and others in making a difference in Edmonton when he is not focused on the Oilers or the season’s action. In particular, given the numerous prior stories about Kane’s bad image, his gambling scandal, and the current vicious custody dispute with his separated wife.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
