Winnipeg Adds Depth with Halischuk and Tangradi

The Winnipeg Jets have added some depth with the signing of RW Matt Halischuk, and the resigning of LW Eric Tangradi.

Matt Halischuk appeared in 36 games with the Nashville Predators during the 2012-13 season. In that time, the winger scored five goals with six assists and had 10 penalty minutes. He also played two games for the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals, where he had two goals and an assist. The Toronto, Ont., native had a career year in 2011/12 where he scored 15 goals and 13 assists.

The Jets avoided salary arbitration with forward Eric Tangradi, signing the restricted free agent to a two-year, $1.35 million contract on Tuesday. The deal will pay the 24-year-old $650,000 next season and $700,000 in 2014-15 season.

Tangradi was scheduled for an arbitrator hearing on July 23.

Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 13 for a 2013 sixth-round draft pick, Tangradi scored one goal and three assists in 36 games with the Jets this past season. In 81 games between Pittsburgh and Winnipeg, the Philadelphia, PA., naive had two goals and seven assists.

Halischuk and Tangradi are solid depth forwards that can fill in the bottom-6, and give options for GM Cheveldayoff and head coach Claude Noel.
