Florida Panthers Sign Brandon Pirri To Two-Year Deal

Deals, deals flying in EVERYWHERE.

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Dylan Olsen re-signing, the Florida Panthers carried their momentum into Wednesday, locking up centerman Brandon Pirri for the duration of a two-year bridge contract. The former AHL-scoring leader joined the professional ranks in 2010, when the Stan Bowman-led Chicago Blackhawks snagged the Toronto, Ontario native with the 59th overall selection.

A sublimely skilled offensive threat, the Rensselaer Polytechnic-product was buried in the organizational depth charts, logging the majority of his minutes with the Blackhawks’ AHL-affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. After yo-yoing between the Madhouse on Madison and wherever Rockford is, Cats GM Dale Tallon pounced on the opportunity to acquire the young pivot, tapping his Chi-town connections and packaging a 2014 third-round selection along with a 2016 fifth-rounder in exchange for Pirri.

Skating in 21 games for the Panthers, Pirri notched 14 points off of seven goals, proving to be a dynamic offensive threat in an otherwise anemic forward core. For his career, Pirri has 13 goals and 27 points in 56 NHL contests split between Chicago and Florida. At this juncture, Pirri figures to finally crack an NHL roster for good; could this be his breakout year?
