Jamie Benn Wins Art Ross In Style

With 8.5 seconds left in his season, Jamie Benn assisted Cody Eakin on a goal against the Nashville Predators and won the Art Ross Trophy for the first time in his career and first time in Dallas Stars franchise history.

Jamie Benn went into the game with 83 points, just behind Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and John Tavares of the New York Islanders who both had 84, seemingly tough competition, considering they both played tonight, but they were no match for the Stars captain, who finished the game with a hat trick and assist for 4 total points, beating Tavares by one point.

Jamie Benn scored his first first goal of the night early in the first period and added on his second later in the period, initially taking the lead. Tavares managed to get a goal and assist, bumping him back up above Benn, who went scoreless in the second and most of the third period. Benn scored on the empty netter, but it seemed as if all Art Ross hopes were loss, as the tiebreaker was goals and Tavares had more of them.

That is, until Agent Orange came in to save the day. The “Ginger Ninja” Cody Eakin managed to put one last goal past Predators goaltender Carter Hutton with 8.5 seconds left in the game. That goal was assisted by none other than Jamie Benn, giving him the one last point needed to win him the Art Ross.

The Stars may not have a chance at the Stanley Cup this year, but they will still be bringing a trophy back to Dallas and possibly more motivation to do better next season. Only time will tell.
