Toronto Maple Leafs ready to name their new GM shortly

Just a few weeks after making the decision to fire Kyle Dubas, it appears like the Toronto Maple Leafs will soon have a new general manager.

All indications point to the Leafs hiring former Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving, according to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger. He posted this earlier tonight on Twitter:

“We updated the Toronto Maple Leafs GM search earlier tonight Insider Trading. More specifically, all signs now point to the search wrapping up in the very near future with Brad Treliving being named as the new GM.”

The 53-year-old native of British Columbia joined the Flames in April 2014 as their general manager, a position that he held until the end of this season. During his tenure in Calgary, they reached the playoffs five times, which included two postseason victories over the Vancouver Canucks (2015) and Dallas Stars (2022) respectively.

He was a founding member of the Western Professional League and later served as Don Maloney’s assistant general manager for the Phoenix Coyotes.

Other possibilities that the Leafs reportedly explored included Jason Botterill, Marc Bergevin, and Peter Chiarelli.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me?
