WATCH Sergei Mozyakin score his 900th career KHL point! (The first KHL player in history to do so)

Sergei Mozyakin wrote yet another new chapter in his illustrious KHL career when he scored his 900th KHL point but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save Metallurg from defeat at home to Torpedo.

The historic moment came midway through the game with his team trailing 0-1, Metallurg’s captain delivered a trademark wrist shot past Alexei Melnichuk to tie the game and lift his numbers to 900 points (407 goals +493 assists) in 799 appearances. That’s an average of more than a point a game (1.12) over a KHL career that began with Atlant back on Sep. 2, 2008.

Mozyakin was drafted in the 9th round of the 2002 NHL draft (263rd overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

However, Mozyakin never showed interest to play in North America and stayed closer to home building an impressive career in the KHL.

That’s not to say that the Blue Jackets and his agent didn’t try countless times to convince Mozyakin to give it a go in the NHL; even offering a potential trade of contract rights to the Pittsburgh Penguins to play along fellow star and friend Evgeni Malkin.

Sergei Mozyakin captured the Gagarin Cup twice with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in 2014 and 2016. Along with his accomplished KHL career, Mozyakin skated to an Olympic Gold Medal in 2018 with the Olympic Athletes from Russia, 2 Gold Medals with Team Russia in the World Championships (2008, 2009), and many other personal awards and honors.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me? Shoot me an email: iburdetskiy@hookedonhockey.com and let's talk some hockey!
