Breaking News: Calgary Flames fire head coach Darryl Sutter

A surprise decision has been made by the Calgary Flames.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Calgary Flames have fired head coach Darryl Sutter effective immediately. Sutter was the subject of much controversy this season and was the target of a great deal of criticism after the Flames failed to make the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Given that the Flames recently let general manager Brad Treliving depart and did not renew his contract at the end of the season, the move will come as a shock to many. Many believed Treliving wanted to leave Sutter behind, and the dispute from those in authority over him in the company was what ultimately caused the breakup.

It does indeed feel a little strange to see the Flames make that change now, just a few short weeks later.

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me?
