Breaking News: Corey Perry’s Blackhawks Ouster Linked to Alcohol-Driven Incident

The circumstances surrounding Corey Perry’s departure from the Blackhawks are becoming more clear.

NHL source Frank Seravalli claimed on the Daily Faceoff on Wednesday that Perry was allegedly involved in a “alcohol-fueled incident” involving Blackhawks personnel and business sponsors. Perry’s contract was scheduled to expire after clearing waivers on Wednesday.

According to Seravalli, a former TSN employee, it was unclear when the incident happened and who saw it.

The day before the Blackhawks game against the Blue Jackets a week ago, there was an incident involving a team member, according to an ESPN report on Tuesday.

Perry’s case is being investigated by the NHLPA, and after his contract is formally terminated, he has sixty days to file a grievance.

“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments,” the team said in a release Tuesday.

“As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately.”

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson refuted slanderous accusations that went viral on social media, despite the team providing scant specifics about what happened.

“I do want to be very clear on this one point,” Davidson said Tuesday. “This does not involve any other players or their families and anyone that suggests otherwise is wildly inaccurate, and frankly, it’s disgusting.”

I grew up playing Ball and Roller Hockey day and night somewhat religiously throughout elementary and middle school. The two don't compare though when I lace up the skates and hit the ice. I live and breathe hockey beyond the perspective of "it's just a game" and I will gladly talk hockey for hours with anyone. Hockey is more than just a lifestyle, it's a culture of passionate people who make memories every time the puck is dropped. Hockey has not only helped me get through some of the hardest times in life but has created some of the best memories to date. Want to talk hockey with me?
