Deadline Deals: Andrej Meszaros to Boston/3rd-Round Pick to Philadelphia

Blueliner Andrej Meszaros has been traded from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 3rd-Round draft pick.

The solid, but sometimes streaky defenseman is a good acquisition by the Bruins. It will help bolster the blueline, especially since Meszaros will not have as much pressure as he did in Philly, playing behind the likes of Chara, Seidenberg and the like.

He can be an effective quarterback on the power play when he’s hot, and cold as ice when he’s not. He goes through a lot of unpredictable stretches throughout the season, but overall he’s usually reliable from a defensive standpoint.

The Bruins have nothing to lose in this deal, especially if he proves to be one of the final pieces of the puzzle for another Cup run by Boston. His contract expires at season’s end (6-year, $24 million), and being only 28 years young, he will be looking to impress as he will soon become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

In 571 career NHL games, he has scored 54 goals and 219 points.

He can log a lot of minutes when called upon, but in Boston, that’s unlikely to happen.
