Deadline Deals: Thomas Vanek to Montreal/Sebastien Collberg, Draft Pick to Islanders

Perhaps the most anticipated trade of the day, the announcement has finally come that veteran forward Thomas Vanek has indeed been traded.

The goal-scoring forward, taken 5th overall in the 2013 NHL draft has scored 17 goals and 44 points in 47 contests this season with the lowly New York Islanders.

His contract expires at the end of this season (7-year, $50 million) and he will likely be used as a rental by the Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs, in turn, traded a 2nd-Round pick and 20-year old Swedish prospect Sebastian Collberg to acquire one of the most sought-after players available.
